Cinderella Photography: (Thornhill, February 2012)

Thornhill
February 2012

Cinderella Photography

Memories of this date crack us up to this date. One of the most important lessons were learned during this appointment (actually, there were many learned, but this one is a relationship lesson): laugh together. And, when it's not appropriate to burst out laughing in people's faces, laugh with your eyes when looking at each other. Secret couple communication for the win!

Anyways, back to the magic. We first encountered Cinderella Photography at Canada's Bridal Show (January 2012, see previous blog). They were raffling out a chance to win a $3,000 videography package, so we signed up. We were signing up everywhere that day, as we were complete wedding noobs. A couple weeks later, I get a call from Cinderella photography, telling us we had won the $3,000 wedding package! I was so excited, and immediately booked an appointment to go redeem out prize. They gave us their address in Thornhill, and we drove over to meet them the following weekend.

We pulled up to a house in a residential area. It was decent looking, but kind of awkward. We knocked on the door, and were greeted by the owner's wife. We stepped into the hallway, where we were asked to take off our shoes. Feeling awkward in my bare feet, I looked up to see a giant, spinning chandelier hanging above us. Looking back down, I see my fiance's reaction. Commence laughing eyes sequence #1.

We were taken to a dining room area covered in canvases of past works. The lady and her husband flipped through some of the most old-fashioned and cheesiest pictures that we'd ever seen, while telling us the their work was "top quality, top of the line" in the thickest Slavic accent ever. We were then taken to their living room, which was taken over by cameras on tripods and all other types of equipment. Apparently this was "red line, top of the line" stuff.

Finally, they asked us to join them in their office to discuss the details. The lady was very nice and offered us espressos, which were served in nice china. It was a nice touch that we really appreciated. The husband then proceeded to tell us about the photography packages that they offer, but his style of photography really didn't suit our personality. It didn't really have that "special" feel to it, just some typical old-fashioned ideas that were repeated over and over again.

We asked about what we won, and we were told that what we "won" is only valid if we purchase a photography package from them. The "winning" package consisted of:
-10 hours of videography
-2 cameras (one of which we found out would simply be placed on a tripod for 10 hours).
-some editing.

We considered getting a photo package just to save some money on video, but the phabloto packages were pretty limited and ranged from $2,000-$5,000. I'm pretty sure the cost of the "winning" package was just embedded in it. After some silent visual communication between my fiance and I, we know that something smelled funny. We didn't sign up for anything, and he seemed rather disappointed. We told him that we wanted to think about it, and he told us that if we walked out, the "winning" offer couldn't be guaranteed.

Just as we were leaving, the doorbell rang. Another couple walked in and took off their shoes. The husband jogged towards them, yelling "Ahhhhhhhh, congratulations to the winners!!!". We couldn't wait for the door to close so we could get in our car and laugh hysterically at the trap we almost fell into. Needless to say, we had nothing to "think" about, and we just left it at a fun experience with the spinning chandelier, which was also probably "top of the line".

Funny enough, at a later visit at a DJ's office, we met a photographer who happened to be there for the day and asked us if we had already arranged for photo services. We told him that we hadn't, but that we had had "an interesting experience as the winners of a so-called video package", to which he instantly asked "from Cinderella Photography?" I guess these two are notorious for their generous offer to make everyone winners of the $3,000 video prize.

This company wouldn't be too bad if they were straight forward and customers were looking for the type of services that they offer, but the so called "winning" package lure didn't cut it with us.

VERDICT: **

**,
ABI

    5. Thank you for posting this. I thought there's something fishy about this "winning", did not return their call at all.

    6. I know this is an old feed but I want to add to anyone coming across Cinderella Photography with "Dr David". DO NOT HIRE HIM!!!! We feel into his scam of winning a $3000 credited package for our wedding. We met with him and he made everything seem so great and cheered us with a toast of his homemade liquor. He is out for thousands of dollars and he did a horrible job!!! About 60% of our pics had people's eyes closed and he didgitally fixed it and people looked stoned. He never took pictures of the bride and groom after we were married with our families (at the hall). When I told him he forgot to do it he said it was our responsibility to ask and remind him. Our pictures were printed on cheap Walmart photo paper and our big picture is covered in air bubbles as he frames it himself instead of having it done professionally. His packages are baseline and makes you pay for ANY AND EVERYTHING ELSE (he made us pay for correcting the closed eyes). On top of it all. He refused to give us the negatives and told us to come back after a year to get them. His free videographer is NOT A VIDEOGRAPHER by any means. It's just a regular acquaintance of his who did a horrible horrible job. She left the camera on the ground recording while our church ceremony so we have our vows recorded with our voices heard and legs recorded. His poses are old fashioned and cheesy and once the wedding is over he treats his customers like garbage because he already has your money. We payed in instalments and after the first couple instalments we made sure to have him write down anything he agreed upon verbally because we noticed that he did not keep his word on anything unless it was written down. He even charged us extra if we requested he zoom in on a picture for our albums. And he MAKES you purchase his albums and frames as part of his agreement to allow customers to have their proofs or negatives. We requested to pay the last instalment after we had received all of our picture albums and frames. He got really upset and refused to give us the negatives that were part of the agreement once you purchase his frames. It was a horrible experience and no one should have to endure being taken advantage of during their wedding by a money hungry "photographer" who scams clients. AGAIN DO NOT HIRE DR. DAVID KROGAN FROM CINDERELLA PHOTOGRAPHY.

  8. i got "The call" today too after going to the bridal show yesterday - first I found the website... that is just awful ( http://www.photographertoronto.com/ ) then I found this story - Photo's are the only thing we get to take away from our big day, with all this bad press, I dont think it is something I am willing to risk. Thanks for posting your experience.

  9. I'm not surprised to hear that many have had a bad experience with Cinderella Photography.

If you've been in business since 1972, are "award winning", "honest", and "professional". Shoot 200 weddings a year and have over 5000 happy weddings (?) Do you REALLY need to try and pass off someone else's work as your own?!

Cinderella Photography is a thief. ALL of the pictures in the wedding gallery on their website (http://www.creativedigitalmedia.ie/wp-content/uploads/webdesign/daniel/wedding_galleries1.html) are STOLEN from Walters and Walters Photography out of North Carolina (https://www.waltersandwalters.com/Weddings/Default.aspx?GalleryID=27&P=2).

1st image on Cinderella's Gallery . . . girl tying on shoe in black and white . . . Walters and Walters page 2
2nd image on Cindrella's Gallery . . . girl putting on dress, taken from above . . . Walters and Walters page 2
    3rd image on Cinderella's Gallery . . . girl putting on lipliner . . . Walters and Walters page 2

    Should I go on?

  11. It's pretty pathetic that on your website, http://www.photographertoronto.com/, Cinderella photography, based in Toronto, ON links to another site, http://www.creativedigitalmedia.ie/wp-content/uploads/webdesign/daniel/wedding_galleries1.html, which has his name, Dr. David Kogan, on it has pages and pages of stolen photos.

    Dr? Really?

Image theft is a crime Dr. The US and Canada cooperate to prosecute copyright infringement and, as the work you are showing is NOT your own, I am sure fraud charges may be coming as well.

And if you want to say your "webmaster did it", why is the link on the text "by Dr. David Kogan - Toronto Photo Video - Production studio", Dr David Kogan, going to the website with all of the stolen photos.

PS - Disney is going to nail you to a wall for using their copyrighted material as well. If you think you are immune to prosecution from a small business, that's one thing. Disney lawyers LIVE for this.

  16. wow, thanks for posting this, I would never in a million years call this company back, that is shady business, please dont say someone is a "winner" if you have to spend money to get your prize, maybe in the voice message you left me, you should have said "You get 3000 off a certain package"...nice try

  17. Hi I was one of those brides ! I used David for my wedding in 2008, and exactly like you I won a video and Paid REALLY good money for him to be my photographer! I paid over 5000 for him to capture one of the most important days of my life and he missed the mark in sooooooo many ways you can’t even imagine! I couldn’t talk about my photos for a solid year or two after my wedding with out crying. (Keep in mind I love photography) and this is the one thing I was really really wanting to spend the extra money on to have those memories captured to last a life time! The video he took for us, I’ve watched once in the 10 years we’ve been married - it was so shaky I can’t even watch it with out getting motion sickness! In all honestly I should have taken him to court but I was just starting my new life with my husband and very much wanted to get over this ordeal! My water mark photos that he took at my negatives are so embarrassing honestly. Stay away, stay far away!!!! He didn’t even get a picture of my father and I walking down the isle ! We did a toast after the church ceremony he was no where to be found - as the bride you expect the person you hired to capture the moments to be doing just that! He never did ! Also as the bride or even the Groom you are caught up in all the excitement - when I finally got my negatives that were water stamped I cried and I continued to cry for a solid two years anytime it was brought up. Even now I’m still upset and it is 10 years later! Stay away from him - far away! I wish I was exaggerating- I promise you I am not. It’s a scam! Don’t be like me and fall for it on one of your most important days of your life.

  18. I show your photos done by your company to every couple who tells me they are getting married. Guest what your lies get told and photos are shown. Many couples walk away just by showing your company work I wonder what is wrong with the photos.I will continue to show them for years to come I paid for them I can show them to whoever I want to and photos are advertising. Bad customer service is told and photos are proof and will be shown for many years to come.

  19. They are still scamming people under the name Dreemwedding, also under Toronto Video Photo Studio. Same people that called themselves Cinderella photography and the scammers name is Dr.David Kogan Ph.D. from Thornhill. Be very careful people they are very nice in the beginning pulling you in and at the end they just deliver you garbage!
